I never set out to write a book about faith.
To be honest, I didn't even set out to become a journalist.
I was just a recovering addict with a microphone, asking people questions that interested me.
One question kept coming up.
Why the faith?
Not, Which church do you go to?
Not, Can you quote scripture?
Not, Can you win an argument?
Just...
Why?
Why, after everything life has thrown at you, do you still believe?
Over the past few years I've had the privilege of sitting down with people from all walks of life. Television presenters. Authors. Pastors. Former criminals. Survivors. People who have walked away from cults. People who have buried loved ones. People who have experienced miracles. People whose faith has been tested almost to breaking point.
Every one of them has a different story.
Every one of them has the same question.
This book isn't about proving God exists.
It isn't about winning debates.
It's about listening.
Listening to ordinary people who have lived extraordinary lives, and hearing, in their own words, why they still put their trust in Jesus Christ.
Between each conversation I've shared a little of my own story too. Not because it's more important than theirs, but because their testimonies often challenged, encouraged or reminded me of moments in my own journey from addiction, homelessness and trauma to the life I live today.
Whether you're a lifelong Christian, someone who's lost their faith, someone who's never had any, or you're simply curious about what makes people believe, I hope these conversations encourage you to ask questions.
And maybe, just maybe, you'll find yourself answering one of your own.
