VITA SANGUINIS: THE CODEX is a philosophical play in five acts, set in the Languedoc of southern France during the final years of the Albigensian Crusade. It is the companion book to the album VITA SANGUINIS by LN.
The year is 1243. The institution has been burning its way north for thirty years. YSABEL - a Cathar perfecta - is walking toward Montségur. The road passes through a dying man in a cave, a burned house, a standing stone in a forest clearing, an inquisition chamber, and a field of frost where the fire is already laid.
This is not a history play. It is a theology staged inside history.
At its centre is a single argument: the vis sacra - the irreducible signal that exists in a person before any institution arrives and after any institution finishes - cannot be administered, cannot be revoked, and cannot be extinguished by fire. The gate does not open because the correct authority holds the correct key. The gate opens through recognition. The institution has never owned what it claims to distribute. The two hundred who descended from Montségur on the morning of 16 March 1244 knew this. They walked down anyway.
VITA SANGUINIS: THE CODEX contains the full five-act play, a Foreword on the theology of discernment, an Afterword on transmission, a historical note on the Cathars and Montségur, a Velthari Glossary defining the theological language of the Dark Sacred Series, and complete track notes for all ten songs on the companion album.
