The work entitled, Vilsmeier-Haack Reagent Aided Synthesis and Quinoline based Fused Heterocyclic Compounds , deals the brief survey on the applications of Vilsmeier-Haack reagent on the organic compounds containing different functional groups and discussed the synthesis of 2-chloro-3- formylquinolines and 2-chloro-3-formylbenzo[f] quinolines, respectively from the reaction of acetanilides and N-acetyl-2-naphthylamine using Vilsmeier-Haack reagent.Further, the various chemical evidences are described to establish the structure of the compounds such as the conversion of the 3-formyl group into the anils, oximes, hydrazones, semicarbazones, nitriles, esters, acetals, homoallyl and homopropargyl alcohols and substitution at the 2-chloro group by sulphur, oxygen and nitrogen nucleophiles.
