Pełny opis

Most of us know what it feels like to walk away from a conversation and not be able to explain what just happened. A lunch with a friend that should have felt good left you drained. A difficult conversation that should have felt bad left you closer. A relationship you were certain about turned out to be something different than you thought.

When our words for our connections fall short, we do not just feel confused. We feel like the problem is us.

The problem is the language.

We learn early to sort our connections into categories: best friend, good friend, acquaintance, work friend, partner. Those labels tell us the context of a relationship. They do not tell us the dimension of trust inside it. When we cannot name what we are actually experiencing, we cannot learn from it, repair it, or choose it more carefully the next time.

The Trust Framework offers a different language. Drawing on research into how the brain, and language work, it reframes trust not as a single yes or no, but as something we experience in three distinct dimensions: group trust, opinion trust, and emotional trust. Each one serves a purpose, none is better than another, and learning to tell them apart changes how you understand every relationship you have.

Through stories from classrooms, families, and friendships, speech-language pathologist Rebecca Cann explores how trust is built, why some connections feel draining while others feel safe, and how to recognize the difference between sharing and trusting, control and connection, masking and choice.
