Good questions but the answer isn't a simple one. For the house served as more than just a dwelling for a person. It serves as a nexus between worlds. And the home of a being of dark origins. It is a house, a courtroom and an execution grounds.
On a rainy night the master of the house reflects upon the history of the house. Miles away the only living relative of the man who built stumbles onto its history and begins digging and learns that some times the past is best left alone.
