Valdis is a Fairy with no magic. She has lived among the humans since the true predators took over the planet. But living in the woods means being prey to those who hunt her to feast on her blood or use her body for their own sick desires. When fighting to protect the people she calls family nearly ends in her death, she finds herself depending on a member of the Royal Guard to survive.
As time passes, resentment grows as she relies on Ihllr Elf, Jhelan, for her most basic needs. She should hate him, should despise the luxurious life he appears to live. Until she notices the way he puts her needs and the needs of the town of Ahdlai above his own and realizes he's more than a pair of bright blue eyes and muscles.
Loyal and brave, Jhelan takes his duty to the Royal Family seriously. It's his whole life. When the Prince orders Valdis into his care, he struggles with feelings of bitterness that he has to play nursemaid rather than performing his duties of protecting the citizens of Ahdlai with the rest of the Guard. He doesn't want the hassle of being tied to anyone even in a temporary capacity.
It isn't until the enemy plans to attack the territory does Jhelan realize how much he truly stands to lose.
Now, they must find a way to keep the people of Ahdlai safe while learning to accept the Bond forced upon them by Mother Universe...if they can make it through the battle.
