Marguerite Scales was born in the little village of Lindfield in Sussex. Her husband died six years ago after a long illness. She has three sons, two daughters, five grandchildren, six great- grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. She is a keen gardener. She also loves writing and has had four poems published. She was a children's nanny in 1947 and has always loved children. During the fifties she became a foster mother and looked after twenty-one children, the last one she adopted.
