Read Korean Without Guessing - Level A2.2

한국 생활 brings Luca back into everyday Korea - not as a tourist, but as someone learning how life really works.

Can I take a photo here?
Do I have to take off my shoes?
Can close friends speak casually now?

This fourth book in the 한국어를 읽다 series moves beyond arrival, routine, hobbies, and Gyeongju travel into rules, customs, counters, comparisons, abilities, sequencing, and friendship.

No Guessing. No Dictionary. Just Reading.

The interlinear method places English support directly above the Korean meaning, so you can read smoothly without stopping to search every word.

Luca has to take off his shoes.

Read the interlinear story first. Then read the Korean-only version to test yourself. With each rereading, Korean becomes more familiar and usable.

What's New in Level A2.2?

A2.1 helped you talk about the past, wishes, ongoing actions, and simple trips. A2.2 gives you the language of everyday life: what is allowed, forbidden, expected, and how close friends speak.

- May I take a photo?
- You mustn't eat here.
- You have to take off your shoes.
- I can speak Korean.
  • Sequencing:

Casual Speech Begins

One big step is 반말, casual speech. As Luca and Minji become closer, Minji suggests they speak comfortably:

어제 뭐 했어?
What did you do yesterday?

반말 is formed by dropping from 해요체: 가요 → 가, 먹었어요 → 먹었어. It depends on relationship, age, and social comfort. In Korea, the older person usually initiates it.

The Story

Luca is no longer a newcomer. He knows Seoul, has friends, and wants to understand the unwritten parts of Korean life. He asks what he may do, learns what he must not do, visits Minji's home, shops with counters, compares Seoul and Gyeongju, and realizes how much Korean he can now use.
