The book is devoted to the neurosurgical management of spasticity. Starting with a chapter on anatomical and physiological basics of spasticity and a short history of the neurosurgical treatment, it describes the actual neurosurgical available methods. As management in adults and children is different the book is also structured accordingly, including evaluation, decision-making, Intrathecal Baclofen Therapy (ITB), Botulinum toxin therapy and surgery. Neurosurgical armamentarium includes besides ITB, procedures directed on Peripheral nerves, Dorsal roots, Dorsal Root Entry Zone and Spinal cord.§Based on an overall surgical experience of more than a thousand of patients, the authors did not intend to exhaustively collect all personal or published data. The book simply gathers the most important pieces of present knowledge and attempts at organizing the whole in a didactic manner and a practical way.§Authors stress on the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, including neurologists, pediatricians and rehabilitation specialists. Close collaboration with other surgical disciplines like orthopaedic surgery and neuro-urology are also outlined.§
