This is a research volume that brings together organizational and health psychology research concerned with the maritime. It is the first volume in this rapidly developing area. Such research is undertaken by psychologists, other social scientists and maritime practitioners, lecturers and researchers. The importance of psychosocial factors is being increasingly recognised in the maritime field, by students, lecturers, seafarers, employers, unions, insurance companies and international regulatory bodies. There is now increased research funding, training and accreditation relating to areas of maritime psychology. The book is of interest to lectures, researchers and students of occupational and health psychology, of maritime science and of other social and health scientists and practitioners in the area. With over 1 million seafarers and English as the required international maritime language, an English language volume on Maritime Psychology will both recognize and give impetus to the development of this field internationally.
