The complexity of information systems development is often handled by establishing rigorous processes. In order to increase the applicability of processes in projects, they often cover a wide range of functionality. The use in a specific project typically requires their instantiation (i.e. adaptation for a project). Apart from size and complexity it is made more complex by constraints which ensure that certain correctness criteria are followed e.g. compliance with industry standards.
