The book gives an insight into the issue of sustainable resource use. It delivers comprehensive knowledge about the current discussion on sustainable resource use, resource efficiency and dematerialisation. The book covers the topic in a broad range, beginning from a description and analysis of the current situation and the constraints of resource availability over targets and strategies to reach a sustainable resource use. It will close with proposals and ideas for concrete actions and instruments. The book highlights the environmental needs, the economical and the political relevance of a sustainable resource use. It gives scientific based arguments why we need an increase in resource productivity. Most of the arguments will be drawn from empirical evidence and observations but the book will also contain theoretical considerations based on economic modelling and on natural science.
