Originally written in August 1987, the inspiration for this story was the British Government decision to send four hunter type minesweepers from the United Kingdom to the Persian Gulf in support of the Royal Navy's Armilla operations, to protect British registered shipping.

The story is entirely fiction, but like all good stories, it is based on factual information and topical events.

Our dad said that true life has a habit of catching up on fiction and it is sad to see that some of the events depicted in the story have already happened since he first put pen to paper.
