Old age population has been growing at an unprecedented rate all over the world. An increase in longevity, decline in fertility and mortality rates have contributed the population ageing phenomena. In this context the concerns and issues of elderly are multifaceted. A series of development such as weakening of traditional joint family system, more chance in women employability and inability to extend care due to geographical distance between the children and parents created new challenges in the care of elderly. The Active ageing process helps to optimize the opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance the quality of life as people age. It allows people to realize their potential for physical, social, and mental well being throughout the life course. The book attempts to analyze the role of community based programme in an active ageing process. The pillars of active ageing such as participation, health and security were analysed through community based programme.
