This book is adapted from the panoramic police documentary Big City, No Small Matters: The Real Heroes of the City, co-produced and broadcast by Shanghai Media Group and the Shanghai Public Security Bureau. As one of Dragon TV's police documentary trilogy - following the first two seasons, Patrol Scene Live and Big City, No Small Matters: Police Station Stories - this season shifts its focus from grassroots police station work to crime-fighting, zeroing in on criminal and economic cases in Shanghai.

The production team embedded themselves with various criminal investigation and economic investigation units across the city, gaining unprecedented access to forensic science teams, anti-fraud and anti-theft squads, plainclothes officers, major crime units, narcotics task forces, and more. They followed detectives throughout the entire investigative process - from case development to arrests - capturing on camera the tense moments of real-life police operations.
